Is
Social Media Killing?
Social media seems to
bring out what communication is in essence: interaction and sharing. Social
media is an umbrella term, and it refers to new arenas where users create
content: writing and broadcasting carried out by “the people are formally known
as the audience”. In 2021, 4.3 billion people—more than half of the world
population—had a social media account, and the average user spent around two
and a half hours per day on social media platforms. Social media has become a
part of our life. It’s nonsense if nowadays we don’t have a social media. Social
media is bringing many positive ways such as we can meet our family that lives
so far from us, or we can make a friend from social media. Although the use of social media might
depend from person to person but nonetheless the social media in stills the
negative impact on overall Because as we can see, theres a lot of murders,
kidnapping, and rape case nowadays and it started because they know each other
from social media. Maybe it wont happen if their parents put a control on them.
But, our parents cant watch us for 24/7. So it back and depends on yourself. Can
you control yourself from social media? Or social media can control you all the
time? I have watched many movies that bring a theme about the dangerous side
from social media. And from that, I can conclude that all of the world have
been beware of social media.
Is social media killing?
In my opinion, Yes. Social media can killing our mental health, time, and life.
Everyone might be known social media is for keep in touch to each others. People
spent hours chatting with their friends and browsing profiles on social
networking sites. It becomes a compulsive habit to visit own profile several
times in a day for checking friends‟ updates, changing status, and commenting
on others photos and videos. Finally it diverts employees‟ attention from the
office work. A study conducted by Nucleus Research with 237 corporate employees
shows 77 percent of them use Facebook during work hours. And it results in 1.5%
drop in employee productivity for those companies allowing full access to
Facebook (Gaudin, 2009). But nowadays, social media is getting scary. People
used it for a crime. One of the cases is when people making a friend through on
Instagram or dating apps and it ends in murder. Not only that, social media is
killing time to because we can spend 24/7 by scrolling our social media and didn’t
do anything instead of doing our homework or etc and it happened not only to
teenagers but a children too. For those students, we also found many
despression diagnoses like anxiety. People like to spread a hate comments
through a social media and it causes people should against their anxiety. Also
social media can destroy your relationship with your environment. I have
experiences this, when you were celebrate eid fitr, Indonesia people often to
come to their Grand mother’s house for celebrating it together. But instead of
celebrating it together, all of the family members often busy with their phone.
Actually, social media brings those who are far away closer and keeps those
close away. Social media is can be more useful if we can use it in a right way.
You can easily connect with people around the world, keep connected with your
old friends without face to face. However, if you are not good at using social
media, danger will come to you.
In Conclusion, social
media has become an important part of the lives of many individuals living with
mental disorders. Many of these individuals use social media to share their
lived experiences with mental illness, to seek support from others, and to
search for information about treatment recommendations, accessing mental health
services and coping with symptoms (Bucci et al. 2019; Highton Williamson et al.
2015; Naslund et al. 2016b). Everything
in this world can be used for a bad purpose as well as for good. It‟s us who
can make the difference and utilize social networking sites wisely for the
benefit of developing social bonds across. Social media is just a mask that everybody is willing to put on so
that they are socially accepted and admired. The dark side of social media is
that, within seconds, anything can be blown out of proportion and taken out of
context. It is important to; us for beware of
everything, we should educate ourselves to understand the difference between
social media and real life.
